She reported on sports for several of the largest outlets in the nation. She worked for The Washington Post nearly a decade covering Grand Slam Tennis and Grand Slam Football, as being a basketball reporter at numerous Olympics. Nichols spent nine years at ESPN which was where she earned 2 Emmy Awards. Additionally, she was an on-line reporter for Monday Night Football broadcasts. The next step was to CNN, and then Turner Sports. Unguarded by Rachel Nichols was the first program she hosted and created. The show aired on CNN International and CNN. A record-breaking 1 billion viewers were watching it around the world. At the time, Nichols covered TNT's NBA broadcasts, including the playoffs, regular season, and the All-Star broadcast teams. Apart from reporting for TBS as well, she was also a reporter for golf and baseball broadcasts as well as Final Four on CBS. Over the course of 42 years of the award, it was the only time an individual woman was among the 200+ nominees.
